To assuage your guilt for cheating the system, I have an idea for you! For each stolen book you download from the internet, write and post a 5-STAR review on Amazon.com. That way, the author might have a chance in hell of actually earning money for all their hard work.
In case you didn’t know, most authors only make a small amount of money from publishers to actually write the books in the hopes that it will sell a lot. (Read this article on CNET) The publisher always makes some money, but the authors might not. If (AND ONLY IF) a writer’s books do sell a lot (20,000-40,000 books), there is a potential to earn royalties from it. In most cases, however, this never happens because there are just too many people pirating books. Here’s where you come in. If you have a electronic copy of a book that you got for free and have enjoyed, turn your life around today and write some 5 star reviews. These reviews can help people who actually buy books, and in turn increase sales which might someday help the author.
Seriously. Make good for your bad. Help an author out.
